Former child star Mark Everett was killed by Los Angeles police in a 2-hour standoff in a restaurant. Everett held his own 7-year-old son hostage. The boy was wounded in the shootout.

Mark Everett, whose real name is Manuel Benitez, was wanted by police for the murder of his girlfriend Stephanie Spears. Benitez used a dumbell to kill spears in 2005.

Benitez fled from authorities and a reward for $20,000 was posted for information leading to the arrest of Benitez.

As child actor Mark Everett, Benitez had small parts in the television shows “Highway to Heaven” and “Trapper John, MD,” and the movies “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” and “Stand and Deliver,” according to the FBI and The Internet Movie Database Web site.(AP)
