Barack Obama was elected the USA’s first black President Tuesday night in a historic triumph over his rival John McCain.
Obama is a son of Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., from Kenya and Ann Dunham from Kansas, a Democratic Senator of Illinois, is victorious after a hard-fought battleground over Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Iowa states against Republican Sen. John McCain.
Obama together with his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden, will take their oaths as President and Vice President on Jan. 20, 2009.
A huge mass in Grant Park, California erode in jubilation after hearing Obama’s victory and some even shed tears of joy.
Obama has said his first focus will be on the economy and he has also pledged to withdraw most U.S. combat troops from Iraq within 16 months.
Shortly after 11 p.m., The Associated Press count showed Obama with 338 electoral votel over 127 votes of McCain.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said, “Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America.”
