Tim Lincecum, the newly crowned National Cy Young Awardee, is special. At 5’11” and 170 pounds he may not look like it, but he gets up the pitching mound all doubts are immediately put to rest. When asked about his stature, he gave this statement:
You go out there trying to do the same thing – get hitters out. However you accomplish that is fine, as long as you do it. I’ve dealt with talk about my size all of my life, so it’s nothing new for me.
Previously called the “clubhouse kid”, Lincecum went on to attain a respectable 18-5, comfortably beating former Cy Young recipient Brandon Webb of Arizona, getting 23 of 32 first-place votes and 137 points to Webb’s 73. At third place is Mets lefthander Johan Santana with 55 points, and fourth was Phillies closer Brad Lidge. At fifth is CC Sabathia.
Hailed as the most dominant pitcher by his peers and praised by Giants general manager Brian Sabean with these words:
You never think about a pitcher 24 years old winning the Cy Young. Cy Young at that age is a little bit outside the box. You think All-Star team, maybe even 20 games, but Cy Young? That’s incredible, and he earned it.
